Description

A comforting and flavorful Wonton Soup made with tender wontons, fresh vegetables, aromatic ginger and garlic, and a savory chicken broth base. This easy-to-make soup combines nutritious ingredients like baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms, delivering a warm, satisfying meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Soup Base

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons sliced ginger root

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 3 baby bok choy, chopped
  • 1 cup sliced shiitake mushrooms

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen wontons
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Broth: In a stockpot over medium-high heat, add 6 cups of chicken broth. Stir in the minced garlic and sliced ginger root to infuse the broth with aromatic flavors.
  2. Simmer Soup Base: Cover the pot and bring the broth mixture to a boil. Let it cook for 5 minutes to deepen the flavors.
  3. Add Greens: Remove the cover and add the sliced green onions and chopped baby bok choy. Stir them into the broth, then cover the pot again and bring back to a boil.
  4. Cook Wontons: Remove the cover and add the frozen wontons to the pot. Cover and bring the soup to a boil once again, ensuring the wontons cook through completely.
  5. Season and Add Mushrooms: Take off the cover and stir in the sliced shiitake mushrooms, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Heat thoroughly to combine all flavors before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor.
  • Frozen wontons cook quickly; do not overcook to prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Feel free to substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth for a vegetarian version, and use vegetarian wontons accordingly.
  • Adjust soy sauce to taste, especially if you prefer a lower sodium option.
  • Baby bok choy adds a mild bitterness and crunch; substitute with spinach if desired.
