Ingredients
White Sauce
- ¼ cup Butter
- 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Whole milk (room temperature)
- 3 cloves Garlic, minced
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
- 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Pizza Base
- 1 dough Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil (for brushing crust)
Toppings
- 1.5 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 0.5 cup Ricotta cheese
- 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon Dried basil
- Fresh thyme (for garnish)
Instructions
- Make White Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and cook for about 1 minute, whisking constantly to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the whole milk along with minced garlic, salt, pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens smoothly. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prep Dough: On a floured surface, roll out your pizza dough to your preferred thickness. Transfer the dough carefully to a prepared pizza stone or baking sheet to ensure even baking.
- Assemble Pizza: Evenly spread the prepared white sauce over the pizza crust. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then add dollops of ricotta cheese. Sprinkle dried oregano and dried basil over the top. Add fresh thyme as a garnish if desired. Brush the edges of the crust with olive oil for a golden finish.
- Bake Pizza: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place the assembled pizza in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the cheese to set slightly and the flavors to meld for the best taste experience.
Notes
- Use room temperature milk for a smoother sauce consistency.
- Ensure constant whisking while making the sauce to avoid lumps.
- Feel free to add additional toppings such as mushrooms, spinach, or cooked chicken for variation.
- Brush the crust with olive oil to achieve a crisp and golden finish.
- Letting the pizza rest after baking ensures better sliceability and flavor.
