Description

Texas Red River Margaritas are a vibrant and spicy twist on the classic margarita, featuring tequila infused with fresh jalapeno peppers and balanced with ruby red grapefruit juice and sweet simple syrup. This cocktail offers a perfect balance of heat, tartness, and sweetness, traditionally rimmed with a salt and sugar mixture to enhance each refreshing sip.

Ingredients

Tequila Infusion

  • 4 ounces tequila
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, quartered and seeded

Rim Coating

  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sugar

Mixers

  • 1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Infuse the Tequila: Place the tequila and quartered, seeded jalapeno peppers in a small bowl. Let the mixture stand at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours to allow the jalapeno flavors to infuse into the tequila.
  2. Prepare the Glass Rims: Moisten the rims of four margarita or cocktail glasses with water. On a plate, combine the kosher salt and coarse sugar. Hold each glass upside down and gently dip the rim into the salt and sugar mixture to coat evenly. Set the glasses aside and discard any remaining mixture on the plate.
  3. Mix the Margarita: Strain the infused tequila into a small bowl to remove the jalapeno pieces. Stir in the ruby red grapefruit juice and simple syrup until well combined.
  4. Serve: Pour the margarita mixture into the prepared glasses over ice cubes. Serve immediately and enjoy the spicy, tangy refreshment.

Notes

  • For a milder heat, reduce the number of jalapenos or infusion time.
  • Simple syrup can be made at home by dissolving equal parts sugar and water over low heat.
  • Use fresh ruby red grapefruit juice for the best flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup according to preference.
  • To make it a batch cocktail, multiply ingredients accordingly and mix in a pitcher.
