Description

Delicious and easy Taco Pull-Apart Bread featuring a crusty sourdough loaf loaded with seasoned butter, diced onion and jalapeño, and a blend of melted Colby Jack and mozzarella cheeses. Perfect as a flavorful appetizer or snack, finished with fresh toppings like pico de gallo and avocado for an irresistible Tex-Mex twist.

Ingredients

Bread and Vegetables

  • 1 loaf round sourdough bread
  • ½ onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeño, diced

Butter Mixture

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning

Cheeses

  • ½ cup shredded Colby Jack cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Toppings (optional)

  • Pico de gallo
  • Sour cream
  • Cilantro
  • Avocado
  • Queso fresco

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the pull-apart bread.
  2. Slice the bread: Take the round sourdough loaf and cut it diagonally into 1-inch strips, but be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom crust, keeping the loaf intact.
  3. Make cross cuts: Cut the bread again perpendicular to the first cuts to create a grid of 1-inch by 1-inch squares, allowing the fillings to be stuffed between the crevices.
  4. Add veggies: Stuff the diced onion and jalapeño evenly into the crevices formed by the cuts in the bread.
  5. Prepare seasoned butter: In a small bowl, melt the unsalted butter and stir in the taco seasoning until well combined.
  6. Pour butter mixture: Drizzle the taco-seasoned butter generously into all the openings and crevices of the bread, making sure it seeps in.
  7. Stuff with cheese: Fill the gaps with shredded Colby Jack cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese, distributing evenly throughout the loaf.
  8. Bake covered: Wrap the bread loaf loosely with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld and cheeses begin to melt.
  9. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly, golden, and the bread crust is nicely toasted.
  10. Add toppings: Remove from oven and garnish with pico de gallo, sour cream, cilantro, avocado slices, queso fresco, or your choice of taco-style toppings.
  11. Serve suggestions: For extra flavor, serve with dipping sauces like cilantro lime ranch or your favorite salsa alongside.

Notes

  • Be careful not to cut all the way through the bread to keep the loaf intact for pulling apart.
  • Adjust jalapeño quantity based on your preferred spice level.
  • Use fresh toppings like avocado and cilantro for a vibrant finish.
  • Covering with foil during the initial baking prevents the bread from drying out.
  • Serve warm for the best gooey cheese experience.
  • Great as a party appetizer or casual snack.
