Description

Smash Burger Tortilla Wraps are a quick and delicious twist on classic burgers, combining the crispy, flavorful smashed beef patty with melty cheese and fresh toppings, all wrapped nicely in a warm tortilla. Perfect for a speedy meal or casual gatherings, these wraps offer the satisfying taste of a burger in a portable, easy-to-eat form.

Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Wrap Assembly

  • 6 tortillas (5-6 inch)
  • 6 slices cheddar or American cheese
  • Burger sauce (store-bought or homemade), as desired
  • Pickles, shredded lettuce, diced onion (optional toppings)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Skillet: Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat to ensure it's hot enough for a crispy sear on the beef.
  2. Prepare Beef Mixture: In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  3. Form Beef Balls: Divide the seasoned beef into 6 even-sized balls for uniform cooking and fitting tortillas.
  4. Place and Smash: Place a beef ball directly onto a tortilla. Using parchment paper and a heavy spatula or pan, smash it flat into the tortilla until very thin and covering most of the tortilla. Alternatively, place the ball of beef directly on the skillet, then place the tortilla on top and press down to smash. Ensure the patty is very thin for quick cooking.
  5. Cook Beef: Carefully place the tortilla beef-side down onto the hot skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the beef is browned and crispy around the edges.
  6. Flip and Add Cheese: Flip the wrap over, reduce heat to medium, and immediately top the beef side with a slice of cheese to let it melt while the tortilla toasts.
  7. Toast: Let the tortilla toast and the cheese melt for 1–2 minutes on medium heat, creating a warm, crispy wrap with gooey cheese.
  8. Remove and Add Toppings: Remove the wrap from heat and add your favorite burger toppings such as burger sauce, shredded lettuce, pickles, and diced onions as desired.
  9. Serve: Fold the wrap like a taco or roll it burrito-style and serve hot for a satisfying, handheld burger meal.

Notes

  • Using parchment paper to smash the beef prevents sticking and makes it easier to flatten evenly.
  • For leaner results, opt for lean ground beef to reduce grease and excess fat.
  • Customize toppings based on preference: add jalapeños, tomatoes, or avocado for extra flavor.
  • This recipe works best with smaller tortillas around 5-6 inches so the patty covers the wrap evenly.
  • Use a heavy spatula or pan for smashing to ensure a thin, crispy crust on the beef patty.
  • If preferred, make your own burger sauce to add a personalized flavor boost.
