Ingredients
For the Tacos
- 4 Flour tortillas, 6 inches in size
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper, both to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American Cheese (or your preferred cheese on a burger)
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips, amount as desired
- Shredded iceberg lettuce, amount as desired
For the Burger Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Portion the Beef: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions to ensure even-sized burger patties within the tacos.
- Prepare the Tortilla with Meat: Place a tortilla flat on your work surface and evenly spread one portion of ground beef over the entire surface, covering it thinly and uniformly.
- Season the Beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper generously over the top of the beef layer on the tortilla to enhance flavor.
- Heat the Cooking Surface: Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly oil it to prevent sticking and promote crust formation.
- Cook the Smash Burger Taco: Carefully place the tortilla, meat-side down, onto the hot skillet. Gently press the tortilla with a spatula to form a thin patty and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes until a golden-brown crust forms.
- Flip and Add Cheese: Flip the patty carefully, then immediately place a slice of American cheese on top. Cook for another 1 to 3 minutes, depending on how crisp you want the tortilla, but watch closely to avoid burning.
- Remove from Heat: Once cheese is melted and the tortilla is crisp to your liking, remove the smash taco burger from the skillet.
- Repeat Cooking: Repeat steps 2 to 7 for the remaining portions of ground beef and tortillas.
- Assemble the Tacos: Spread the prepared burger sauce over each cooked smash burger taco. Top with shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips according to your preference.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the assembled smash burger tacos immediately while warm and enjoy this savory, crispy, and flavorful meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to prevent excess grease on the tortillas.
- Adjust the amount of oil used based on your skillet’s non-stick properties.
- For extra spice, add a dash of hot sauce to the burger sauce or sprinkle chili flakes on the patty before cooking.
- American cheese melts best for this recipe but feel free to substitute with cheddar or pepper jack.
- If you prefer gluten-free, substitute the flour tortillas with corn tortillas or gluten-free tortillas.
