Description

A quick and easy Sheet Pan Spicy Nachos recipe perfect for gatherings or a tasty snack. This layered nachos dish features crunchy restaurant-style tortilla chips, spicy black beans, chunky salsa, plenty of melted cheddar cheese, and fresh jalapeños, garnished with fresh cilantro and scallions. Baked to perfection for a warm, cheesy, and spicy treat.

Ingredients

Nachos Base

  • 1 bag (11 oz) restaurant style tortilla chips

Layer Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) spicy black beans, rinsed
  • 1 jar (16 oz) chunky salsa (medium, mild, or hot)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 jalapeños, sliced

Garnish

  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Scallions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare your baking sheet or cast iron skillet by spraying it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. First Layer Assembly: Spread the tortilla chips to cover the entire bottom of the pan evenly. Spoon on a layer of rinsed black beans, spread chunky salsa, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese, and add sliced jalapeños evenly over the chips.
  3. Second Layer Assembly: Create a second layer about one-third the width of the first layer on top of the initial layer. Again, add black beans, salsa, cheese, and jalapeños evenly across this section to build flavor and texture.
  4. Additional Layers: Add one or two more layers in the same fashion—always layering the black beans, salsa, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños. The layers should form a pyramid shape. Finish your top layer generously with beans, salsa, cheese, and jalapeño slices.
  5. Bake: Place the assembled nachos into the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Bake until the cheese is completely melted, bubbly, and the chips start turning a light golden brown.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle fresh chopped cilantro and sliced scallions on top for a fresh burst of flavor. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can adjust the heat level by choosing mild, medium, or hot salsa and by adding more or fewer jalapeños.
  • For extra richness, consider adding sour cream or guacamole as toppings when serving.
  • Make sure to rinse canned beans to reduce sodium and improve texture.
  • The layering technique ensures every bite has a perfect mix of chips, beans, cheese, and jalapeños.
  • Use a cast iron skillet for even heating and a crispier bottom layer if available.
