Ingredients
Pastry
- 2 store bought puff pastry sheets (let set out at room temperature for 15 minutes)
Filling
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425℉ (220℃/200℃ Fan) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for puff pastry to puff and brown beautifully.
- Prepare First Puff Pastry Sheet: Unroll the first sheet of puff pastry and place it on a lined or lightly floured work surface. Keeping it on the greaseproof paper it comes with prevents sticking and makes handling easier.
- Brush with Butter: Generously brush the surface of the first pastry sheet with melted unsalted butter, coating evenly to help the cinnamon sugar adhere and add flavor.
- Sprinkle Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Evenly sprinkle this mixture over the buttered pastry ensuring full coverage for a sweet, spiced filling.
- Add Second Puff Pastry Sheet: Unroll the second puff pastry sheet and carefully place it on top of the first, sandwiching the cinnamon sugar layer between the two sheets.
- Cut Strips: Using a sharp knife or dough cutter, divide the layered pastry into 16 even strips for twisting.
- Twist the Strips: Take each strip, holding an end in each hand, and twist in opposite directions until the pastry spirals, building layers and texture.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the twisted strips on a lined baking sheet, spacing them at least one inch apart to allow room for puffing. Brush the tops with additional melted butter for extra golden color.
- Bake: Bake in the center of the preheated oven for about 12 minutes, until the twists are well puffed and golden brown.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and allow the twists to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely and maintain crispness.
Notes
- Allow the puff pastry sheets to reach room temperature before working with them to prevent cracking or tearing.
- Keep the twists spaced apart on the baking sheet to ensure even puffing during baking.
- Serve the cinnamon twists warm or at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.
- For extra indulgence, drizzle with icing or sprinkle with powdered sugar once cooled.
- Store leftover twists in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days to retain crispness.
