Description

Celebrate the holiday season with this festive Mistletoe Margarita featuring a homemade cranberry agave syrup infused with warming spices and fresh citrus notes. Perfectly balanced with tequila reposado and lime juice, this cranberry Christmas margarita is easy to make and beautifully garnished for a joyful drink experience.

Ingredients

Cranberry Agave Syrup

  • ½ cup cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup agave nectar (light or amber)
  • ½ cup water
  • 2-3 strips orange peel
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or ¼ tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 2 whole cloves (optional)

Margarita

  • 4 oz tequila reposado (½ cup)
  • 2 oz lime juice (¼ cup)
  • 2 oz cranberry-agave syrup (¼ cup, from above)
  • Ice

Garnishes (optional)

  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cranberries
  • Rosemary sprigs
  • Lime slices
  • Orange slices

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cranberry Agave Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the cranberries, water, agave nectar, orange peel, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Stir the ingredients together to mix well.
  2. Simmer the Syrup: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to break down and release their flavors.
  3. Cool and Strain Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof container to strain out the solids. Allow the cranberry agave syrup to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Margaritas: In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila reposado, fresh lime juice, and 2 ounces of the cooled cranberry agave syrup. Add ice to fill the shaker.
  5. Shake and Serve: Cover the shaker and shake vigorously for 15 to 30 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients. Pour the margarita evenly into two chilled glasses filled with ice.
  6. Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish each glass as desired with cinnamon sticks, cranberries, rosemary sprigs, and slices of lime or orange. Serve immediately and enjoy your festive cranberry margarita!

Notes

  • The cranberry agave syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less agave nectar to the syrup according to taste.
  • For a spicier twist, add a pinch of ground cinnamon to the margarita before shaking.
  • To make it a non-alcoholic version, omit tequila and replace it with sparkling water or lime soda.
  • Fresh cranberries can be used, but frozen cranberries are a convenient and effective alternative.
