Description

This Milk Chocolate Mousse is a silky, decadent dessert that combines rich melted milk chocolate with whipped heavy cream to create a light and airy treat. Perfect for chocolate lovers, this mousse can be served in individual ramekins or a large bowl, garnished with fresh berries, whipped cream, or chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.

Ingredients

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1 cup milk chocolate (chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Whipped Cream

  • 1 1/2 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat Chocolate and Cream: Place the milk chocolate and 1/2 cup of heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then continue heating in 10-second intervals, stirring each time, until the mixture is warm and the chocolate has fully melted. Stir until smooth, then allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Whip Remaining Cream: Using a mixer, whip the remaining 1 1/2 cups of cold heavy cream along with salt and vanilla extract until medium peaks form, meaning the peaks hold shape but the tips curl downwards.
  3. Combine and Whip to Stiff Peaks: Gently fold the cooled chocolate mixture into the whipped cream. Continue mixing until stiff peaks form, where the peaks hold their shape firmly and the tips stand straight up.
  4. Chill and Serve: Transfer the mousse into a large serving bowl or pipe into individual ramekins or small bowls. Cover and refrigerate for 1 to 4 hours until firm. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with fresh whipped cream, fresh berries, crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips, or chocolate shavings for extra flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the chocolate mixture is completely cooled to room temperature before folding into the whipped cream to prevent melting the whipped cream.
  • Use cold heavy cream straight from the refrigerator for best whipping results.
  • You can substitute milk chocolate with dark or semi-sweet chocolate for a richer mousse.
  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream and dairy-free chocolate.
  • Serve chilled and consume within 2 days for optimal freshness.
