Ingredients
Chocolate Milk Mixture
- 15 g (0.5 oz) dark chocolate (about 4 small chunks, chopped, gluten-free if required)
- 240 ml (1 cup) milk (regular or almond milk)
- Pinch of hot chilli powder
- Pinch of cinnamon
- 1 ½ tbsp raw cacao powder (gluten-free if needed)
Smoothie Base
- 4 tbsp rolled oats (gluten-free if required)
- ½ a ripe medium-sized banana
- 10 almonds
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp maca powder (optional)
- 2 tbsp cold water, plus extra splash if needed
Garnish
- Pinch of chilli flakes
- ¼ tsp grated dark chocolate
- 1 small red chilli (to decorate the glass)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chocolate Milk Mixture: Add the chopped dark chocolate to a jug, pour in the milk, and add the pinch of hot chilli powder, cinnamon, and cacao powder. Microwave the mixture until warm and the chocolate has fully melted, or heat it gently in a pan over low heat.
- Combine Smoothie Ingredients: Place the oats, banana, almonds, chia seeds, maca powder, and 2 tablespoons of cold water into your blender or smoothie maker. Add approximately one fifth of the warm milk mixture to the blender. If the mixture feels too warm, add an extra splash of cold water to protect your blender.
- Blend Smoothie: Blend the ingredients on high for about one minute until the oats and chia seeds are fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
- Reheat the Milk Mixture: While the smoothie is blending, gently heat the remaining milk mixture until hot, but avoid boiling.
- Assemble and Serve: Pour the blended oat mixture into your serving cup, stir in the hot chocolate milk mixture, then sprinkle the top with chilli flakes and grated dark chocolate. Garnish the glass with a small red chilli for a decorative and spicy touch.
