Description

This vibrant Mango Habanero Salsa is a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. Made with fresh mango, lime juice, and fiery habanero pepper, it's a deliciously fresh salsa that can be made quickly and served with tortilla chips. It’s ideal as a party appetizer or a flavorful topping for grilled meats and tacos.

Ingredients

For the Salsa

  • 8 ounces diced mango (fresh or frozen and defrosted)
  • 2 limes, juiced (about 2 tablespoons of juice)
  • 1 small habanero pepper, very finely diced (remove seeds and white ribs for less heat)
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
  • 1/4 of a red onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

For Serving

  • Tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients and chop the mango, habanero pepper, red onion, garlic, and cilantro finely. Preparing all components beforehand helps to assemble the salsa seamlessly.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a serving bowl, add the diced mango followed by freshly squeezed lime juice, finely diced habanero pepper, minced garlic, finely diced red onion, salt, black pepper, and chopped cilantro. Stir everything very well to ensure even distribution of flavors.
  3. Rest the Salsa: Allow the salsa to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature. This resting time helps the flavors meld beautifully, enhancing the overall taste.
  4. Serve: Serve the mango habanero salsa chilled or at room temperature with tortilla chips as a snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • You can finely chop ingredients by hand or use a food processor for convenience, but be careful not to over-process to keep the salsa's texture.
  • For less heat, remove the seeds and ribs from the habanero pepper thoroughly.
  • The salsa can be refrigerated for up to 2 days, though it’s best enjoyed fresh.
  • Adjust the lime juice and salt to taste as needed.
  • This salsa pairs well with grilled fish, chicken, or as a topping for tacos.
