Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons salted butter
- 6 cups mini marshmallows (10-ounce bag)
- 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup M&M candies (about 2 individual bags)
Instructions
- Prepare M&Ms and Baking Dish: Place the M&M candies in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm them up. Spray an 8x8 or 9x9 inch square baking dish with nonstick spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large nonstick pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously using a rubber or silicone spatula until the marshmallows completely melt into a smooth mixture, about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat once melted.
- Add Rice Krispies Cereal: Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and stir well to evenly coat the cereal.
- Fold in M&M Candies: Pour in half the frozen M&M candies and gently fold them into the mixture. Then add a little more M&Ms, reserving about a dozen for topping, and fold those in as well.
- Transfer and Press Mixture: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a spatula or a hand sprayed with nonstick spray, evenly press the mixture into the pan.
- Add Remaining M&Ms on Top: Sprinkle the reserved M&M candies over the top and gently press them into the surface of the treats.
- Cool and Cut: Allow the treats to cool for about 60 minutes at room temperature to firm up. Once set, cut into 9 equal squares and serve.
Notes
- Freezing M&Ms before adding prevents them from melting and keeps their color vibrant.
- Using parchment paper in the baking dish helps with easy removal of the treats.
- Press the mixture gently but firmly to ensure the treats hold together well.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
