Description

This Instant Pot Cranberry Apple Sauce is a quick and easy homemade condiment that blends tart cranberries, sweet apples, and fresh orange juice, perfectly sweetened with honey. Cooked under pressure, the sauce combines natural flavors into a versatile spread or side dish, ideal for holiday meals or everyday use.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 2 medium apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • Water (to top off orange juice to 3/4 cup)
  • 1/2 to 1 cup honey, to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean: Rinse cranberries in a colander and pick through them to ensure all are firm and red, discarding any that aren't.
  2. Chop: Core and cut the apples into large chunks ready for cooking.
  3. Prepare liquid: Juice the orange into a measuring cup and add water until the liquid reaches 3/4 cup total volume.
  4. Add ingredients to Instant Pot: Place cranberries, chopped apples, and orange liquid into the Instant Pot insert.
  5. Seal and set Instant Pot: Close the lid securely with the sealing ring in place. Set the valve to 'seal', select 'Manual' mode, and set the timer for 8 minutes.
  6. Pressure cook: It will take under 10 minutes to reach pressure, then cook for 8 minutes. After cooking, allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes.
  7. Release pressure: Carefully switch the valve to 'vent' to release any remaining pressure. Open the lid cautiously as steam will be hot.
  8. Blend sauce: For a chunky texture, remove some cranberries and set aside. Use an immersion blender to puree the cooked mixture to your desired smoothness. Stir in reserved cranberries if using.
  9. Sweeten and adjust: Stir in 1/2 cup honey and taste. Add more honey if you prefer a sweeter sauce.
  10. Store: Transfer the sauce to airtight containers and refrigerate. It will keep fresh for up to 30 days.

Notes

  • You can adjust honey amount based on your sweetness preference or substitute with maple syrup for a different flavor.
  • If you prefer a completely smooth sauce, blend all the mixture without reserving cranberries.
  • This sauce works well as a side with turkey, pork, or as a spread on toast and sandwiches.
  • Ensure the Instant Pot lid seal is properly positioned to avoid any steam leaks during cooking.
  • Allowing natural pressure release helps flavors develop and prevents splattering.
