Description
A simple, quick, and nutritious homemade oat milk recipe that uses organic rolled oats blended with cold filtered water and a touch of natural sweetener. This dairy-free milk alternative is perfect for smoothies, cereals, or enjoying on its own, with a smooth, creamy texture and customizable sweetness and thickness.
Ingredients
Oat Milk Ingredients
- 1 cup organic rolled oats
- 3 cups cold filtered water (adjust for preferred thickness)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or date syrup, or preferred sweetener)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Gather 1 cup of organic rolled oats, 3 cups of cold filtered water, 1 tablespoon of your preferred sweetener such as maple syrup, and a pinch of salt.
- Blend Ingredients: Place all ingredients into a blender. Ensure the water you use is very cold to help maintain a fresh flavor. Blend on high for 25 to 30 seconds only—over-blending may cause a gummy texture in the milk.
- Strain the Milk: Pour the blended mixture through a nut milk bag or a fine cheese cloth to strain out the oat pulp. Gently squeeze to extract as much liquid as possible for a smooth milk consistency.
- Store Properly: Transfer the strained oat milk into a mason jar or airtight container. Refrigerate immediately to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
- Shake and Serve: Shake the oat milk well before each use, as natural separation will occur. Enjoy your homemade oat milk in coffee, smoothies, cereals, or as a refreshing beverage on its own.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of water to change the thickness of the oat milk: use less water for creamier milk and more for thinner consistency.
- Use cold filtered water to enhance taste and freshness.
- You can substitute maple syrup with other natural sweeteners like date syrup, agave nectar, or honey if not strictly vegan.
- Consume oat milk within 4 to 5 days for best freshness.
- Do not over-blend to avoid a slimy or gummy texture.
- Nut milk bag or fine cheese cloth is preferred for smooth texture but a fine mesh sieve can work with some extra pressing.
