Description

A simple and wholesome homemade muesli recipe featuring toasted rolled oats, nuts, dried fruit, and lightly sweetened with maple syrup. Perfect for a nutritious breakfast served with milk or your favorite non-dairy milk substitute.

Ingredients

Muesli Mixture

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup nuts or seeds
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup dried fruit

To Serve

  • milk or non-dairy milk substitute

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for toasting the oats and nuts.
  2. Prepare baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, aluminum foil (lightly oiled), or a silicon baking mat to prevent sticking.
  3. Spread and drizzle: Evenly spread the rolled oats and nuts over the prepared baking sheet, then drizzle the maple syrup over the mixture for sweetness.
  4. Toast the mixture: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and toast for about 10 minutes, or until the oats turn golden. Keep a close eye starting at 8 minutes to avoid burning the nuts.
  5. Cool the toasted mixture: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the oats and nuts to cool completely to room temperature.
  6. Prepare dried fruit: Chop any large pieces of dried fruit into bite-sized pieces and stir them into the cooled oat and nut mixture.
  7. Serve or store: Serve the muesli immediately with milk or a non-dairy milk substitute, either hot or cold. Alternatively, store the muesli in an airtight container for up to 1-2 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • Using aluminum foil requires lightly oiling it to prevent sticking.
  • Check the oats and nuts frequently while toasting to avoid burning, especially after 8 minutes.
  • Rolled oats can be swapped with old-fashioned oats, but avoid instant oats for this recipe.
  • Feel free to customize with your favorite nuts, seeds, or dried fruits.
