Description

Crispy, homemade baked tortilla chips made easily with simple ingredients and either an air fryer or oven. Perfect for snacking or dipping, these chips are brushed with vegetable oil, lightly salted, and optionally topped with fresh lime juice for extra zing.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Lime Juice (optional)
  • 2 tsp Kosher or Flakey Salt
  • 25 Yellow or White Corn Tortillas

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tortillas: Brush or spray both sides of each tortilla with vegetable oil to ensure crispiness during baking or air frying.
  2. Cut Tortillas: Stack the oiled tortillas evenly like pancakes. Slice the stack down the middle vertically, then horizontally to create four equal quarters. Cut each quarter in half to create eight triangular pieces per tortilla.
  3. Arrange Chips: Lay the tortilla triangles in a single even layer without overlapping – either in the air fryer basket or on a rimmed baking sheet sprinkled with salt. Sprinkle the chips with kosher or flaky salt.
  4. Air Fryer Cooking: Cook the chips in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 6 minutes, flipping each chip halfway through to ensure even browning. Remove when edges turn golden brown and let cool to crisp up further.
  5. Oven Baking Method: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the chips in a single layer on the baking sheet for 7 minutes, then rotate the pan and continue baking for an additional 8 minutes until chips just start to brown. Allow to cool to finish crisping.
  6. Add Finishing Touches: Optionally sprinkle the cooled chips with fresh lime juice for a bright, tangy flavor enhancement.

Notes

  • Make sure chips are in a single layer to prevent sogginess.
  • Using kosher or flaky salt provides the best texture and flavor.
  • Fresh lime juice adds refreshing brightness but is optional.
  • Let chips cool completely to achieve maximum crispiness.
  • These chips are best enjoyed the same day for optimal crunch.
