Description

A refreshing and festive cocktail perfect for summer gatherings, the Firecracker Champagne Paloma combines the zesty flavors of grapefruit and lime with tequila and sparkling champagne, accented by fragrant rosemary and optional frozen fruit ice cubes for a colorful presentation.

Ingredients

Frozen Fruit Ice Cubes (Optional)

  • Watermelon, cut into star-shaped pieces
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Water (to fill ice trays)

Cocktail Mix

  • 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional)
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 cups tequila or jalapeño tequila
  • 1 1/2 cups grapefruit juice

To Serve

  • 1 (750ml) bottle champagne, chilled
  • Salt (for rimming glasses)
  • Extra frozen fruit ice cubes or regular ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Frozen Fruit Ice Cubes: Arrange star-shaped watermelon pieces along with blueberries and raspberries into ice cube trays. Fill the trays with water and place them in the freezer. Freeze for at least 2 hours until solid to create festive, flavorful ice cubes.
  2. Make the Paloma Mix: In a pitcher, add the granulated sugar (if using), fresh rosemary sprigs, and fresh lime juice. Gently muddle them together until the rosemary leaves release their aroma and break down slightly. Then add the tequila and grapefruit juice, stirring well to combine. Chill this mixture in the refrigerator until ready to serve to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Prepare Glasses and Serve: Rim the edges of your glasses with salt by moistening the rims with lime juice and dipping them into salt. Fill the glasses with the frozen fruit ice cubes. Pour the chilled paloma mix over the ice in each glass, filling them about three-quarters full. Top off each drink with chilled champagne for a sparkling finish. Add extra frozen or regular ice cubes so they are visibly popping out of the drink. Serve immediately and enjoy this vibrant, refreshing cocktail.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, use jalapeño-infused tequila.
  • Adjust the sweetness by increasing or omitting the granulated sugar according to taste.
  • If fresh rosemary isn't available, you can substitute with a small sprig of thyme or omit entirely.
  • Use fresh lime and grapefruit juice for the best flavor impact; bottled juices may be too sweet or artificial.
  • The frozen fruit ice cubes not only chill the drink but also add a beautiful, festive touch perfect for parties.
  • To rim the glasses, you can also use sugar instead of salt if you prefer a sweeter edge.
