Description

A delightful and easy-to-make appetizer featuring toasted rustic bread topped with creamy brie cheese, fresh sweet figs, and a drizzle of spicy hot honey for a perfect balance of flavors.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 loaf crusty artisan bread (Ciabatta, Sourdough, or Country loaf), sliced into ½ inch thick slices
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, halved

Toppings

  • 6 large fresh figs, washed, stems removed, and sliced horizontally
  • 1 wedge (6 ounces) Brie cheese, sliced
  • Hot honey, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Slice the Bread: Using a sharp serrated bread knife, cut the artisan loaf into ½ inch thick slices to prepare the base for the bruschetta.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Drizzle or brush olive oil over one side of each bread slice. Rub the cut side of the garlic cloves all over the oiled side of the bread to infuse it with garlic flavor.
  3. Toast the Bread: Place the bread slices with the garlic side facing up in a toaster oven or under the broiler on medium heat. Toast for 2-3 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  4. Cool the Toasts: Arrange the toasted slices on a serving platter, toasted side up, and allow them to cool slightly while you prepare the toppings.
  5. Prepare the Figs and Brie: Wash and dry the figs; remove stems and trim bottoms. Slice the figs horizontally into even slices. Slice the brie cheese into pieces roughly the same width as the bread slices; keep or trim the rind as preferred.
  6. Assemble the Bruschetta: Top each toasted bread slice with a layer of brie slices, covering most of the surface.
  7. Add Fig Slices: Place 3 to 6 slices of fresh figs evenly over the brie on each piece of bread.
  8. Drizzle Hot Honey: Generously drizzle hot honey over the entire bruschetta using a spoon or squirt bottle to add a sweet and spicy finish.
  9. Serve Immediately: Enjoy the fig and brie bruschetta immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Choose fresh, ripe figs for the sweetest flavor and best texture.
  • The brioche rind is edible but can be removed if you prefer a milder taste.
  • Hot honey adds a nice spicy sweetness; adjust the amount to taste.
  • Can be served as an appetizer or a light snack.
  • To toast bread evenly, keep an eye on it to prevent burning under the broiler.
