Description

These Easy Garlic Knots are soft, flavorful bread knots made with a simple yogurt-based dough, baked to golden perfection and tossed in fragrant garlic butter with parmesan and fresh parsley. Perfect as a delicious appetizer or side, they come together quickly in just 30 minutes and can be baked in the oven or cooked in an air fryer for convenience.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose or white whole wheat flour (see notes above for gluten-free options)
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt (less if using table salt)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup fat free Greek yogurt (drained of any excess liquid, e.g., Fage)

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • Olive oil spray (for coating the knots before baking and optional mist after)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone liner or Silpat to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the Greek yogurt and mix with a spoon until incorporated, then knead with dry hands about 15 times to form a smooth dough. Add a little extra flour if too sticky. Shape the dough into a ball.
  3. Shape the Knots: Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 9-inch-long worm-like strip. Tie each strip into a knot shape and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Oil and Bake: Spray the tops of the knots with olive oil. Bake on the top third rack of the oven for about 18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool for 5 minutes.
  5. Make Garlic Butter: While the knots bake, melt butter in a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add chopped garlic and cook for about 2 minutes until golden and fragrant.
  6. Toss or Brush Knots: Toss the baked garlic knots in the skillet with the garlic butter or use a brush to coat them evenly with the garlic butter mixture.
  7. Final Touches: If the knots feel dry, mist them lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle the knots generously with grated parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
  8. Alternative Air Fryer Method: Preheat your air fryer to 325°F. Arrange knots in a single layer without overcrowding and cook for 11 to 12 minutes until golden. No turning required.

Notes

  • You can substitute gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version, but the texture may vary slightly.
  • Use fat-free Greek yogurt drained well to avoid excess moisture in the dough.
  • If the dough is too sticky to work with, add flour gradually until manageable.
  • For a stronger garlic flavor, increase the garlic quantity or add garlic powder to the dough.
  • Use fresh parsley for best flavor; dried parsley may alter the taste.
  • The knots are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated gently in the oven or air fryer.
