Ingredients
Apples
- 5 Apples (Gala or any other variety)
Sweeteners and Flavorings
- 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tbsp. Vanilla Extract
- 1 tbsp. Pure Maple Syrup
Spices and Seasoning
- 1 tbsp. Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. Cloves
- 1/4 tsp. Kosher Salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into manageable pieces suitable for blending.
- Initial Puree: Place the sliced apples into a cooking blender, secure the lid, and blend until the apples are pureed smoothly.
- Add Flavors and Blend: Add the dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, kosher salt, vanilla extract, and maple syrup to the blender. Blend again on the puree setting for about three minutes until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Thicken the Apple Butter: Keep the mixture warm in the blender or transfer it to a slow cooker or instant pot set on high with the lid off. Allow it to cook and thicken, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired consistency, about 15-20 minutes.
Notes
- Use any apple variety you prefer, but Gala apples provide a sweet, mild flavor.
- Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference or use alternative sweeteners.
- Keep the blender mixture warm or use a slow cooker/Instant Pot to gently thicken the apple butter without burning.
- The apple butter can be stored in sterilized jars in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- For a smoother texture, continue blending before thickening as desired.
