Ingredients
Cheese Base
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Tomato Sauce Mixture
- 1 small can (about 8 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- Dash of red pepper flakes
- Dash of salt
Topping
- 1 cup chopped pepperoni
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (reserved)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the dip.
- Mix Cheese Base: In a small bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, and ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese. Stir until smooth and well blended to create a creamy layer.
- Prepare Tomato Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce with dried oregano, dried basil, grated garlic, red pepper flakes, and salt to infuse the sauce with robust Italian flavors.
- Layer Ingredients: Spread the cheese mixture evenly on the bottom of a baking dish or pie pan. Carefully spoon and spread the tomato sauce mixture over the cheese layer. Then sprinkle the chopped pepperoni evenly on top.
- Initial Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the mixture is bubbly and the ingredients start to melt together.
- Add Final Cheese Layer: Remove the dip from the oven and sprinkle the reserved ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top. Return the dip to the oven and bake until this top cheese layer is fully melted and gooey, about 5–7 minutes more.
- Serve: Take the dip out of the oven and serve warm with your favorite dippers such as bread sticks, pita chips, crostini, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks for a delicious appetizer experience.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use a blend of mozzarella and provolone cheese.
- You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier dip.
- Try adding sliced olives or diced green peppers for added texture and taste.
- Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing.
- Serve immediately after baking for the best cheesy texture and flavor.
