Description
Crispy Butter Beans are a quick and easy snack or side dish made by seasoning canned butter beans and then crisping them to perfection using either an air fryer or oven. The beans are coated with a flavorful blend of garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper, then cooked until crispy on the outside while tender inside. This versatile recipe can be enjoyed on its own or dipped in your favorite sauces for an extra burst of flavor.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 15.5 oz Can of Butter Beans, Drained and Rinsed
- 1 Tablespoon Grapeseed Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Dried Thyme
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt, or to Taste
- 1/2 Teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper
Instructions
- Pre-Mix the Spices: In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Whisk or mix thoroughly to create an even spice blend.
- Add Beans to Bowl: Place the drained and rinsed butter beans in a mixing bowl. Add the grapeseed oil and toss the beans gently to coat them evenly with the oil.
- Add The Spices: Sprinkle the pre-mixed spice blend evenly over the oiled beans. Fold gently to ensure each bean is coated well with the seasoning.
- Air Fry: Transfer the seasoned beans to the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, shaking or stirring occasionally, until the beans reach your desired level of crispiness.
- Or Bake: Alternatively, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned beans in a single layer on the sheet. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until crispy and golden.
- Serve: Remove the crispy butter beans from the air fryer or oven. Serve immediately as a snack or side dish. For added flavor, enjoy with dipping sauces such as vegan garlic aioli, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, spicy almond butter sauce, or ketchup.
Notes
- You can substitute grapeseed oil with other neutral oils such as avocado oil, sunflower oil, or light olive oil.
- Using parchment paper in the oven helps achieve better crispiness compared to a silicone baking mat.
- Adjust the salt quantity to your taste preferences.
- Stored in an airtight container, leftover crispy butter beans are best eaten the same day to maintain crunchiness.
- These crispy butter beans make a great vegan and vegetarian snack option.
