Description
This classic Italian Panna Cotta is a rich, creamy dessert made with gelatin, milk, and cream, sweetened with sugar and flavored with vanilla. It requires minimal cooking and is simple to prepare, setting beautifully into a smooth, silky texture perfect for a refreshing treat.
Ingredients
Gelatin Mixture
- 2-1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
- 1/4 cup 2% milk
Main Mixture
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare Gelatin: In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the 2% milk and let it stand for 5 minutes to soften and bloom.
- Heat Cream Mixture: In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Dissolve Gelatin: Add the gelatin and milk mixture to the warm cream mixture along with the vanilla extract. Stir continuously until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour and Chill: Divide the prepared mixture evenly among four dessert dishes or ramekins. Cover them and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until the panna cotta is fully set and firm.
Notes
- Do not boil the cream mixture as high heat can affect the texture of the final dessert.
- For a different flavor twist, try adding a splash of espresso or fruit puree before chilling.
- Ensure gelatin is fully dissolved for a smooth texture without lumps.
- Panna cotta is best served chilled and can be garnished with fresh berries or a drizzle of honey.
