Description

Creamy and vibrant Avocado Hummus combines ripe avocados with chickpeas, tahini, and aromatic spices for a smooth, flavorful dip perfect for snacking or entertaining.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1×15 ounce (400g) can cooked chickpeas (drained, or 1 ½ cups of cooked chickpeas)
  • 2 medium ripe avocados
  • 1-2 tablespoons tahini paste
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

Optional Garnishes

  • ¼ teaspoon sumac
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon nigella seeds
  • 1 tablespoon microgreens
  • Extra extra virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • Optional seeds such as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or pomegranate seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients and ensure chickpeas are drained. Peel and pit the ripe avocados, and measure out the tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, cumin, and salt.
  2. Blend Ingredients: Place the chickpeas, avocado, tahini, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, and ground cumin into a food processor. Pulse the mixture and then run the food processor continuously for about 5 minutes until you achieve a very smooth, creamy dip.
  3. Adjust Consistency: Carefully add water a little at a time if you prefer a thinner consistency. Blend briefly after each addition to avoid making the hummus too runny.
  4. Transfer and Garnish: Spoon the smooth avocado hummus into a serving bowl. Drizzle a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil over the top. Sprinkle optional garnishes such as sumac, sesame seeds, nigella seeds, microgreens, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or pomegranate seeds as desired to add flavor and texture.

Notes

  • This hummus is best served fresh but can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 2 days to retain avocado freshness and flavor.
  • Adjust lemon juice and salt to taste for balance depending on avocado ripeness.
  • The optional seeds and spices add beautiful color and make it visually appealing for entertaining.
  • If you do not have a food processor, use a high-powered blender or mash the avocado and chickpeas together manually for a chunkier texture.
