Enjoy it cold straight from the jar or warmed up for a comforting start to your day.
Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- ½ cup oats
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (or regular yogurt)
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup (or agave or honey)
- 1 Tablespoon chia seeds
Fruit
- ½ banana (or more if desired)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Place all of the ingredients except the banana in a jar or sealable container. Mix well to combine so the oats and chia seeds are fully coated with the milk, yogurt, and sweetener.
- Refrigerate Overnight: Store the jar in the refrigerator overnight, allowing the oats and chia seeds to soak and soften, absorbing the liquid and flavors.
- Add Banana: When ready to eat, or shortly before, slice the banana and add it to the jar. For more banana flavor, mash half the banana into the oats and place remaining slices on top. You can enjoy it straight from the jar or heat in the microwave for 45 seconds before adding banana slices.
- Serving Suggestions and Storage: Best eaten within 24 hours but can last up to 5 days when stored refrigerated in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use rolled oats for best texture; quick oats may become too mushy.
- You can substitute plain Greek yogurt with regular yogurt if preferred.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup or substitute with agave or honey.
- For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and yogurt alternatives and maple syrup or agave as sweetener.
- Overnight oats can be customized with toppings like nuts, seeds, or berries.
