Ingredients
Phyllo Cups
- 1 box phyllo shells (15 pieces) (1.9 oz)
Filling
- 2 slices oven baked bacon, very finely chopped
- 1/2 small Gala apple, very finely chopped
- 2 ounces goat cheese, softened
- 2 ounces Gouda cheese, shredded
- Dash of hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). If phyllo shells are frozen, let them come to room temperature on the counter while you prepare the filling to ensure even baking.
- Prepare Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped oven baked bacon, chopped Gala apple, softened goat cheese, shredded Gouda cheese, and a dash of hot sauce. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well mixed into a creamy, cohesive filling.
- Fill Phyllo Shells: Arrange the phyllo shells evenly on a rimmed baking pan to prevent spills. Spoon the cheese and bacon mixture into each phyllo shell, distributing evenly.
- Bake: Place the filled phyllo shells into the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the filling is lightly golden brown and the phyllo shells are crisp.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the baked phyllo cups from the oven. Sprinkle the chopped fresh chives on top as garnish. Serve the appetizers warm immediately or at room temperature within one to two hours to best enjoy their flavors and texture.
Notes
- Make sure the phyllo shells are at room temperature before baking to avoid cracking.
- You can substitute the Gala apple with other sweet apples like Honeycrisp or Fuji for varied flavors.
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of hot sauce to taste.
- These appetizers are best served fresh but can be made a few hours ahead and stored covered at room temperature.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and perhaps add finely chopped mushrooms or nuts for texture.
