Description
These Jalapeno Poppers are a flavorful appetizer perfect for any gathering. Fresh jalapenos are halved and deseeded, then stuffed with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, garlic, green onions, cheddar cheese, and crispy bacon. Baked until the cheese is melted and golden, they deliver a spicy, cheesy bite with a delightful smoky crunch.
Ingredients
Jalapeno Poppers
- 12 jalapenos
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- 3 Tbsp green onion, chopped
- 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 6 oz bacon, cooked and chopped
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the poppers.
- Prepare Jalapenos: Halve the jalapenos lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds and membranes using a spoon to reduce the heat and create space for filling. Discard the seeds and membranes.
- Make Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, minced garlic, salt, ground black pepper, chopped green onions, shredded cheddar cheese, and cooked chopped bacon. Use a fork to mash and mix the ingredients together until fully incorporated into a smooth, creamy filling.
- Stuff Jalapenos: Spoon the cheese and bacon filling into each jalapeno half, filling to level with the edges without overstuffing to avoid spillage during baking.
- Bake: Arrange the stuffed jalapenos on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the cheese filling is melted and golden on top.
- Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve the poppers warm or at room temperature for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Wear gloves when handling jalapenos to avoid irritation from the capsaicin.
- Removing the seeds and membranes reduces the heat, but you can leave some for extra spice.
- Bacon can be substituted with turkey bacon for a leaner option.
- For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and add finely chopped roasted red peppers or mushrooms.
- Serve with ranch or sour cream dip for added flavor.
