Description

Delicious and crispy Chicken Goujons made with tender chicken breast strips coated in seasoned flour, egg, and crunchy breadcrumbs, baked to golden perfection. This easy recipe takes just 30 minutes and is perfect for a quick family meal or a tasty snack.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 600 g Chicken breast, skinless and boneless (or 4 chicken breasts)

Coating

  • 50 g Plain flour
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 2 Eggs, medium free range, beaten
  • 100 g Breadcrumbs (see notes)

Others

  • Oil for greasing
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 200℃/400℉ fan, 220℃/425℉ conventional, or Gas Mark 7 to ensure it's ready for baking the goujons evenly.
  2. Prepare the chicken strips: Slice the chicken breasts into finger-shaped strips around 2 to 3 cm wide for even cooking and easy handling.
  3. Mix the flour coating: In a small bowl, combine the plain flour with paprika, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper to season the coating.
  4. Coat the chicken: Dip each chicken strip first into the seasoned flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs. Alternatively, use a lidded container to shake the chicken pieces with flour, egg, and breadcrumbs in sequence for easy coating.
  5. Prepare for baking: Place the coated chicken strips onto a baking sheet greased lightly with oil to prevent sticking and promote crispiness.
  6. Bake the goujons: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 23 minutes, turning once if desired, until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden and crisp. If the chicken strips are cut smaller, check for doneness around 15 minutes.

Notes

  • Use good-quality breadcrumbs for the crispiest coating; panko breadcrumbs work exceptionally well.
  • Free-range eggs and skinless, boneless chicken breast provide the best taste and texture.
  • You can season the flour more heavily or add herbs like dried thyme or oregano for extra flavor.
  • Serve with your favorite dips such as garlic mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, or sweet chili sauce.
