Ingredients
Sauce
- 1½ tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1½ tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp cayenne powder
Burgers
- 8 hamburger patties (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 burger buns
Toppings
- 4 pineapple slices
- toppings of choice (e.g., lettuce, red onions, bacon - optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, honey, and cayenne powder. Mix well until smooth. Cover and refrigerate the sauce until you are ready to use it, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Cook the first batch of patties: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Place 4 hamburger patties in the skillet and cook for about 4 to 6 minutes on each side, adjusting time slightly if patties are thicker or frozen (add about an extra minute per side for frozen patties). Once cooked, remove them from the pan and set aside to keep warm.
- Cook the second batch and melt cheese: Add the remaining 4 patties to the skillet. When almost cooked through, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cook for an additional minute to let the cheese melt and help sandwich two patties together securely.
- Grill pineapple slices: Heat a grill pan over medium heat and brush lightly with olive oil. Place pineapple slices on the pan and grill for 1 to 2 minutes per side until caramelized and warmed through. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the burgers: Spread the prepared honey mustard sauce onto the bottom half of each burger bun. Add lettuce or other fresh toppings if desired. Stack two patties together with the melted cheese slice in between. Top the double patties with a grilled pineapple slice, bacon (if using), and sliced red onions for extra flavor. Place the top bun on the finished burger and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can customize toppings like lettuce, bacon, and red onions based on your preferences.
- Using a cast iron skillet helps achieve a nice sear and even cooking on the patties.
- If you prefer a spicier sauce, increase the cayenne powder slightly.
- Frozen patties require a bit more cooking time to ensure they are heated through.
- For a juicier burger, avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking.
