Description

Air Fryer Pizza Dogs combine the classic flavors of pizza and hot dogs into a quick and easy meal. Toasted buns are layered with tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, hot dogs, and topped with olives and your favorite condiments for a cheesy, savory treat made effortlessly in the air fryer.

Ingredients

Cheese and Sauce

  • 1 Cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ Cup tomato sauce

Protein and Bread

  • 3 hot dogs
  • 3 hot dog buns

Toppings and Condiments

  • ¼ Cup sliced olives
  • Ketchup (for drizzling)
  • Yellow mustard (for drizzling)
  • Diced onions (optional)
  • Diced tomatoes (optional)
  • Sauerkraut (optional)
  • Relish (optional)
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Sliced jalapeno (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (204°C) and let it preheat to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare the buns: Cut open the hot dog buns lengthwise without slicing all the way through, allowing them to hold the fillings while remaining intact.
  3. Toast the buns: Place the buns in the air fryer basket and toast them for about 2 minutes until they are lightly golden and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. Spread sauce: Spread approximately 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce inside each toasted bun to create a flavorful base.
  5. Add cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the tomato sauce in each bun.
  6. Melt the cheese: Return the buns to the air fryer and cook for 3 minutes or until the mozzarella cheese is melted and golden.
  7. Assemble the dogs: Place one hot dog in each cheese-lined bun, then add additional shredded mozzarella on top of the hot dogs followed by sliced olives.
  8. Final cook: Air fry the assembled pizza dogs for another 3 minutes, allowing the cheese to become bubbly and slightly golden.
  9. Finish and serve: Carefully remove the pizza dogs from the air fryer, drizzle with ketchup and yellow mustard, and add your choice of optional toppings such as diced onions, tomatoes, pickles, sauerkraut, relish, or jalapenos for extra flavor.

Notes

  • You can customize the toppings to suit your taste preferences; try adding jalapenos for a spicy kick or sauerkraut for tanginess.
  • Using a good-quality mozzarella ensures a nice melt and great flavor.
  • If your air fryer is small, cook the pizza dogs in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  • For a crispier bun, you can toast it a bit longer initially, but watch carefully to prevent burning.
  • These pizza dogs are best enjoyed immediately while hot and cheesy.
