Description

Crispy and flavorful air fryer chicken wings seasoned with a blend of smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic, and onion powders. These wings cook quickly in the air fryer, delivering a perfect balance of crispy skin and tender meat without frying in oil, making them a healthier alternative to traditional fried wings.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 2 pounds chicken wingettes (or wingettes and drumettes)
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep: Heat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, pat the chicken wings dry thoroughly using paper towels to remove any excess moisture, which helps them crisp up better during cooking.
  2. Season wings: Coat the chicken wings evenly with 1 tablespoon of oil. In a bowl, combine salt, ground paprika, smoked paprika, light brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture over the wings, then toss or rub thoroughly to evenly coat every piece.
  3. Air fry: Arrange the wings in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap for optimal crispiness. Air fry at 400°F for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, flip the wings to promote even cooking, then air fry again at 400°F for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, until the wings are fully cooked through and golden brown.
  4. Extra crispiness: For extra crispy wings, remove half of the wings after 15 to 20 minutes of cooking and air fry the remaining half for another 4 to 5 minutes. Then remove the first half and air fry the remaining wings until they reach your desired crispiness.
  5. Serve: Serve the wings immediately while hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ranch, blue cheese, or a spicy buffalo sauce.

Notes

  • Patting the wings dry before seasoning is essential for a crispy texture.
  • You can use a mix of wingettes and drumettes if preferred.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
